DOWN WITH PRINCE

Forbidden pleasures

Posted in Music by downwithprince on November 9, 2009

On May 18, 1980 a 23-year-old British singer hanged himself in his humble kitchen, the day before his coming breakthrough in the US. The name was Ian Curtis (lead singer of Joy Division) a fragile and plagued soul who had lived his inner demons out on stage and in the recording studio to such an extent that the band has often been called one of England’s most influential underground bands in recent times. His lyrics were dark, sad and intensely hopeless and I play it to death for the moment.

John Cooper Clarke reading ‘Evidently Chickentown’ at the beginning of the video. Enjoy!
